This selections of pictures has two meanings, first is: smile, and the second is developing. In the full news I’ll post short information about rabbits, if you’re interested, you can read what rabbit breeds are there, and general descriptions of what they are and where they come from. I think it could be useful. So smile and develop 🙂 let’s go ahead!
In European countries (Austria, Chech Republic, Germany, Holland etc) and in the States small rabbits have been bred for a very long time, and international and local exhibitions are held regularly to provide expert evaluation for the animals. In Russia the breeding of rabbits is just developing. In 1997-1999 some pure-bred animals of different breeds were brought in from Poland and Austria.
Rabbits are usually divided into the two following subgroups: breeds with pointy ears, and besides them, some sub-breeds: lion-rabbits, fox-rabbits, angorra lions
and Теddу;
with smaller ears, so called sheep-rabbits.
They appeared not long ago, and there are the same sub-breeds: the regular ones, short-haired sheep-rabbits, lion-heads, angorra sheep and Teddy (those are realtively new breeds).
Breed description
Their weight is from 1100 to 1500 grams, the optimal is 1,3 kg. The head is large and round. The ears should not be longer than 6 cm. But due to the existence of many hybrid breeds, the length of the ear, size and weight of the rabbit can vary and not obey one standard. Pointy-eared rabbits are a little smaller. The length of eas for sheep-rabbits should not exceed 20 cm. Small-eared rabbits (not angorra ones) have short, smooth hair. The length of hair for angorra rabbits of both breeds is 5-7 cm, and it’s longer on the sides than on the back.
Russia has its own standard of the sheep-rabbit, as many animals weigh 2 kg, and if they all were to become not well-bred, you could lose almost all of them. So there is a transitional (for 3-4 years) form, where the sheep-rabbit that weighs 2 kg, is allowed to participate in exhibitons and to bred as corresponding to the standards. But the breeders are trying to decrease the size and weight of this breed.
